New Balance had a great hiking boot the MW965, and they redesigned it and now it is the MW 966 and I purchased a pair from Amazon and they hurt my heel and ankle and I returned it! I bought three pairs of the MW965 over the last several years and loved them. Some idiot decided to change the heel ( it is now much narrower) and the instep is also narrower. The MW966 Sucks!

I bought a pair of these (MW 966) for an anniversary trip to New Orleans in November, 2008. Waterproof – yes; comfortable – yes (size 13/4E); break-in period – < 1week.
Sent first pair back within 5 days due to toe caps peeling away from shoe. New Balance online store was very helpful and sent out a new pair immediately so I would have them for our trip. Unfortunately, the same problem came up within about 4 more months. I kept the second pair and have just about used them up. Overall not very happy about the way these shoes hold up over time but they are true to size and fairly comfortable for all day walking at work. The waterproof feature is nice but like most things doesn’t last forever. The price made them three stars instead of four.

This is my husband’s 4th pair of these New Balance shoes. He has a very long & narrow foot that is hard to fit, so once he found these he’s continued to get the same ones when they need replacing. He loves them!

Wwonderful shoes, right from the first time I put them on. Great inner support, easy on the feet.
Highly recommend these shoes to anyone who wants a very comfortable pair of walking shoes, capable of doing light duty off the pavement, too.
