Below is what I feel is a self-explanatory explanation of why I am now soured on the Vasque brand. It is the text of email correspondence between myself and Vasque.
Over a year ago I bought a pair of Wasatch boots. They are no
longer waterproof. Just walking in snow my feet get soaked. What is the
warranty? I bought them from Bootleggers in Meredith, NH and they told me I
should contact you. Thank-you.
Paul:
Vasque products are covered by a limited 1-year warranty against defects in
materials and workmanship. Damage that is due to normal wear & tear, abuse
or accidents is not covered by this warranty. Vasque reserves the sole right
to make all coverage determinations. Products found to be defective will be
repaired or replaced at Vasque’s discretion.
If you can’t get back to the dealer where you purchased your boots and see
what they’ll do, you’ll need to send them back direct to Red Wing at this
address:
Red Wing Shoe Company
135 Cannon River Avenue
Red Wing, MN 55066
Attention: Vasque Returns
Put a note or card in with your boots explaining the problem, along with
your name, return address, and telephone #.
T which I replied:
Mike:
Thank you for your timely response. That being said, in my initial email to
you I stated that, “I bought them from Bootleggers in Meredith, NH and they
told me I should contact you.”
Which leaves me scratching my head in frustration when your reply says, “If
you can’t get back to the dealer where you purchased your boots and see what
they’ll do, you’ll need to send them back direct to Red Wing.” Did you not
read that I had already gone to the dealer?
Also, in my opinion any warranty that does NOT cover “normal wear and tear”
isn’t just a limited warranty, it’s for all intents and purposes a useless
(to the consumer) warranty.
The only positive aspect to this is that when I went to Bootleggers
yesterday, I went with hard earned dollars in hand with the intention of
buying a new pair of Vasque Wasatch hikers to replace my current pair and it
was the clerk who upon hearing why I needed a new pair, suggested that I
contact you first.
Now knowing that there is essentially no warranty on your product, I will
buy from a manufacturer that does have one. I apologize if I appear to be
angry. I am not, I’m just disappointed. Again, thank you for your speedy
reply.
Sincerely, Paul

I’ve been using lighter Vasque hiking boots for serveral years – they are quite comfortable and supportive, but not waterproof. I anticipated needing a waterproof boot when exploring Ireland (and was right – plenty of rain, slippery rocks and mud). The Vasque Wasatch boots kept my feet comfy and dry throughout. My wife bought the same and was pleased as well. We recommend.

I am over 220lbs and have some foot issues. I wear a 14 narrow which you never find, and if I go into a wide shoe the sliding and looseness plays havoc on my arches. I put these boots on (14N) and it was like they were made for me, “where you been all my life”, I said. I wore them twice and then for a 3 hr hike in Yosemite and all was amazing and perfect. I am going for a 3 day backpacking trip in a few days and then a week next month as well as doing Half Dome; I have complete confidence I made the best choice for me.

The Wasatch GTX is generally a pretty good boot. They are comfortable and maintain good support on the trail.
Generally they have held up pretty well in the two plus years that I have owned mine, but they have developed cracks where the rubber toe cap meets the upper near the sole* that will soon render them useless once the GTX liner is exposed. This happened WAY too quickly for a (nearly) two hundred dollar boot. It’s sad, because other than this detail, the boots were pretty good. *I should note that this is NOT something that regularly happens with boots
that I wear due to sizing or foot anomalies.

Great boots. Almost no break in time needed. I put 40 miles on them in a 5 day trip, right out of the box! No blisters.
