MBT believes in footwear that makes you better from the ground up. MBT: The idea of Physiological Footwear
MBT, Masai Barefoot Technology, was invented by Swiss engineer Karl Müller. During a visit to Korea he made the startling discovery that walking barefoot over paddy fields alleviated his back pain. Back in Switzerland, Müller began to develop a footwear technology that would make the natural instability of soft ground such as Korean paddy fields or the East African savannah accessible also to those, who have to walk on hard surfaces. In 1996, after years spent on research and development, Masai Barefoot Technology was mature enough to be launched on the market. MBTs are now available in over twenty countries, and app… More about this product >>

these shoes are really very stiff… i’ve gotten big old blisters every time i wear them. the heels are interesting, and i think i would like them a lot in a different type of shoe, like maybe more of a sandal.

The left shoe fit well but the right shoe hurt my foot in several places as it was not well made and I returned the shoes

I love these shoes. Everyone looked at me a little funny when I put them on, but not anymore.
I did purchase 1/2 size larger than I normally wear. I have a very wide foot. Wide enough that I don’t like the fit of Dansko shoes or Alegria shoes (they feel too tight). But these shoes fit perfectly!
It took me about 2 days to get used to the feel of the walk. At first, I felt a little wobbly in them. I had to think about how to walk in these shoes. But after a couple of days, I felt completely comfortable.
I work in a hospital and walk quite a bit in these shoes. They feel so good that I hate taking them off at the end of the day, especially when I put ‘regular’ shoes on after wearing my MBT’s all day. It feels like I’m walking completely wrong after taking them off. My legs and ankles actually feel rejuvenated!
I am a runner and my achilles and my calves are usually tight in the morning. These shoes stretch them out and I no longer have any ankle swelling or tendinitis. LOVE that about these shoes. These shoes also make me stand more erect and make me balance myself when standing still.
I was concerned about the velcro strap and the durability of these shoes in a hospital setting. The strap is extremely secure. If I spill anything on these shoes, I just wipe it off with a wet cloth (no cleaner) as soon as possible and they look as good as new.
PROS:
Stretches backs of my legs
Makes me stand erect
Makes me use my ‘balancing’ muscles
Fits perfectly (even with a wide foot)
Durable
Secure fit
Improves my gait
Legs feel great even after being on them 8-10 hours
CONS:
Expensive (but worth it in my opinion)
A little on the heavy side

Bottom line, these shoes are amazing. I was scared to buy the Lami because I read so many reviews about the shoes being 1/2-1 size too small. I do have two other pairs of MBTs, so i guessed at sizing. I went with my normal size 8 and they fit pretty well, almost a bit too big and I have wide feet. This is good though, because now I can wear an extra pair of socks to keep my feet warm and have enough room. The shoes help me to have perfect posture and work al my muscles from the waist down. I am a nurse and on my feet for long hours These cute shoes make walking comfortable and give me the added bonus of a mini-workout. They are popular wherever I go. People always ask where I got them. I highly recommend getting the all black color. They match with everything and almost look like dress shoes under boot cut pants.

I had wanted a pair of these shoes for quite awhile but the price was way out of my budget. I was thrilled to find them on sale online a few weeks ago and promptly ordered a pair. I normally wear a size 8.5 in women’s shoes, but accidentally ordered a 9. Turns out that it’s OK to have 1/2 size bigger, at least for now. I wear them both with and without socks.
I suffer from kidney disease which is causing my abdomen to swell slowly and therefore brings strain on my lower back muscles. After only a week of wearing these shoes, I literally have no lower back pain. I don’t know what it is about them, but they sort of force you to stand up straight and tuck your stomach in, but not in an obvious way, you don’t even realize you’re doing it.
The second thing is, my feet have very low arches, standing for a long time was causing not only my lower back to ache, but my feet would cramp terribly. Now I can walk/stand for as long as I like without anything other than normal fatigue.
They look a little goofy if you’re sitting, because the heels are so thick. But when you’re standing, they look like any other shoe.
The positive side to all of this is that I like wearing them so much that I’m much more active, it’s fun to walk around because it’s almost like gliding. I haven’t tried the slow running yet, but plan to eventually (once I find a good sports bra). The biggest adjustment I had to them is going down stairs, your balance is different so it takes a little getting used to.
I had no “breaking in” time at all with them, I put them on the day after I got them and wear them all day long with only good results.
